A small high-tech Swedish company has developed a new patented network technology that will make it easier to connect, share and move around DVDs, TVs, PCs, CD-players, printers, loudspeakers, etc in a home or a small office. The technology offers an easy-to-install, highly automated and inexpensive solution for sharing audio, video, Internet access and PC peripherals simultaneously via same platform (multimedia network). The company seeks companies interested in licensing agreements.

Details

This new, patented concept is an easy-to-install network consisting of intelligent outlets communicating with each other wireless or through wires. This system can transfer audio, video and data signals simultaneously through the same media. Different types of appliances, such as modems, printers, PCs, DVD players, VCRs, TVs, CD players and loudspeakers, can be connected to the network. The system detects and identifies devices immediately after they are connected to the network and automatically sets up communication links between appropriate devices through the network.

The company's international patent application covers the above described concept implemented using:
· Different media e.g. wireless, fibre optics, CAT5 (Category 5 UTP (Untwisted Shielded Pair) Cable), etc.
· Different topologies, e.g. ring-topology, star-topology, etc.
· Different standards, e.g. WLAN (Wireless Local Area Network), IEEE1394, etc.
· Different methods

Innovative Aspects:
The concept as a whole is unique according to international search (ITS) conducted by Swedish patent office. All 38 claims in the patent application have passed the search without any remark.

The main innovative aspect of the concept is the effective distribution of the intelligence, which is necessary for detection of the connected appliances and automatic link set-up through the network. 1. Ease of use. Thanks to the fact that the system is intelligent and fully plug-and-play

2. Using the same platform for interconnection of devices in a house requires less wiring efforts, which saves both time and money

3. Easier to upgrade the system. Only one system needs to be upgraded when using the multimedia network defined hereby

4. Easy to install. A network based on wireless technology offers the easiest installation thanks to eliminated wiring. Even a network based on ring-topology offers an easier installation compared to solutions based on wired star-topology

5. The network might be based on several technologies each having their own advantages. E.g. a network based on fibre optics offers a more cost-effective solution, which is even more secure and environment-friendly than a network based on wireless technology. On the other hand, a network based on wireless technology is much easier to install.
