The non-destructive system for determination of the vitality of tree roots works with a heat pulse applied to the sapwood, and can therefore determine the velocity of the sap flow. Six sensors are applied in small holes drilled around the diameter of the tree; the diagnosis therefore covers the main root branches. Trees with defect or detached roots show strongly reduced sap flow.
