Kurzfassung

A technical university of Spain has developed a software tool based on the Geographic Information System ArcView 8.2. It is both a tool for management of radiocommunication systems databases and a powerful tool for radio-electric calculation. The potential clients are telecommunication enterprises that need application for planning radiocommunication systems, allowing them great reduction in costs. Technical co-operation or commercial agreements with technical assistance are sought.



Details

RADIOGIS is a radio-planning tool based on the Geographic Information System (GIS) ARCVIEW 8.2 and developed by the SiCoMo (Mobile Communications Systems) research group at the Technical University of Cartagena, Spain. This software tool can be incorporated to ArcView 9 as a new toolbar for the calculation of radio-electric coverage of radiocommunication systems.
Percentage over threshold using a vectorial layer that includes municipal areas, provincial areas, roads, districts, etc. or with reference to a polygon, a line or a rectangle.

The following lines describe RADIOGIS main functionalities:
1. Calculations
• Power, electric field or power density coverage.
• Propagation models:
- Rural environment: Meeks and UITR-526 (Union International of Telecommunications, Radio).
- Urban environment: Hata, COST231 and Xia-Bertoni.
- Indoor: Ray tracing and UTD (Uniform Theory of Diffraction).
• Percentage over threshold using a vectorial layer that includes municipal areas, provincial areas, roads, districts, etc. or with reference to a polygon, a line or a rectangle.
2. Management of Databases
• Location databases.
• Power radio-electric coverage databases.
• Power density or electric field maps databases.
• Power systems databases.
• Multiple power or electric field maps databases.
• Measurement campaigns.
• Highly useful operations with raster information databases.

Required software
· WINDOWS Environment
· It is necessary to install in the computer the GIS ArcView 9 (from ESRI) with the Spatial Analyst extension. Then, RADIOGIS can be incorporated as a new toolbar.

Innovative Aspects:
- RADIOGIS is incorporated to the ArcView GIS as a new toolbar.
- Transmission, reception and propagation losses are dealt with separately.
- Each coverage item is linked to a raster layer and a vectorial layer whose attribute table is made up of the parameters used in its calculation (PIRE - Power Isotropic Radiated Equivalent, frequency, DTM - Digital Terrain Model, propagation model, etc.).
- Immediate interaction with other planning tools. - Cost reduction.

- Easy management of the stored information related to power coverage, electric field or power density and percentage over threshold.

* Commercial agreement with technical co-operation: the partner, when adapting the technology, is receiving from the research group all the technical support, testing, know-how and training necessary to satisfy the end-user requirements.
