Improved quality of the weld seam of thick plates or pipes by using an innovative laser submerged welding technology
Kurzfassung
A German university has developed a combination of laser welding with submerged welding. With comparison to the submerged welding technology this new laser process enables improved butt joints, while the bridging of the seam is better than the one reached with laser welding. The university offers licenses and the opportunity for further co-development of this technology.
Details
At present longitudinal seams are produced by means of submerged welding. In order to improve the performance as well as efficiency a new welding process was developed at a German university.
The laser beam and the arc interact in a combined welding area. The powder leaving the chute is kept away from the welding area by a separating plate or similar means.
With comparison to the single processes this combined method offers considerable advantages with regard to welding velocity, depth of the seam, thermal load and welding possibilities. This process offers a possibility of improved competitiveness to producers of pipes with longitudinal or spiral seams.
This process can be integrated very easily and cheaply in existing welding systems.
Innovative Aspects:
- Improved butt joints with comparison to the submerged welding process.
- Better bridging of the seam than with laser welding.
- Very easy and economic integration in existing welding systems.
