An Andalusian research group has developed novel filters constituted by special clays for the treatment of pollutant gaseous effluents. The best advantages are that no use is made of chemical additives in the production of catalysts and adsorbents materials, and that raw material is easy to find and presents very low cost. They are looking for a license agreement.



Details

An Andalusian research group has developed novel filters constituted by special clays for the treatment of pollutant gaseous effluents. Those novel monoliths made of two special kinds of clay that present a high adsorption capacity, suitable for the treatment of polluted gaseous effluents. Monoliths can be employed in the production of filters and catalysts for environmental treatment.
The clays employed are subjected to extrusion process in order to get monoliths with honeycomb structure, which can be used with a very low cost to control emission of pollutants to the atmosphere, such as volatile organic compounds (VOCs) or other substances with toxic activity, coming from several industrial sectors, especially chemical and petrochemical industries.
The use of these kinds of clays improves the extrusion process because of their honeycomb structure.

Innovative Aspects:
- High efficiency/low cost.
- High adsorption capacity, which permits its use in the treatment of gaseous pollutants.
- More efficient design: the honeycomb structure of the monoliths present several advantages with respect to standard design based on particle beds, such as low pressure drop, in gaseous streams with high linear velocity.
- Low space and weight requirements.
- No use of chemical additives in the production of catalysts and adsorbents materials.
- Raw material is easy to found and presents very low cost.
- The material can be extruded without addition of chemicals (excepting water).
- Catalysts can be regenerated easily at low temperature.
- High added value.
