An Italian SME offers a technology for the reduction of organic pollution (nitrogen, phosphorus, pathogenic bacteria etc) in water impoundment thanks to the application of enzymatic bacterial compounds according to a specific protocol. An Italian SME, a leading company in the production and application of biological and ecological technologies for environmental remediation in these years has developed several protocols for the use of enzymatic bacterial compounds specific for the recovery of life cycles and exploitation of the self depuration capacity of the environment. A specific biological technology was developed for the reduction of organic pollution in fresh and marine water.
Application fields of biological promoters in water are any water source or humid environment, both fresh and salted water, where vital functions are damaged by any source of acute or chronic pollution; water impoundment where the chemical unbalance of the water has caused eutrophication and created an hostile environment for vegetables and animals.
This technology is based on the application of specific biological promoters in the environment by means of different methods: distribution of the powder on the water surface; dilution of the product in water and spray on the surface; automatic dosage in continuous, in specific points of the lake, of the product in powder or diluted in water.
The aim of this application is to abate the excess of nutrients (nitrogen, phosphorus) in order to limit eutrophication; balance natural cycles of carbon, nitrogen and phosphorus; degrade organic substance present in the water and the sediment and reduce oxygen consumption; eliminate bad smells coming from putrefaction processes; reduce pathogenic bacterial charge; improve efficiency of phytodepuration systems.
The action of applied products is to reduce nitrogen and phosphorus concentration both in solution and in the sediment:
• acceleration of nitrification processes transforming NH4 in NO2 and then rapidly in NO3;
• prevent formation of ammonia nitrogen with formation of useful biomass (microbial flora) and formation of stable organic molecules that are incorporated in the cellular protoplasma of micro-organisms and turned into humid macromolecules (very stable) that are useful for the mineralisation of the sediment.
The major limiting element of eutrophic water that this new method is able to reduce is Nitrogen, usually present as Ammonium and Nitrites. The company obtained a reduction by 70-90% of these elements in times varying from 48 hours to one week.
If the product is periodically supplied even at low concentrations, the content of Nitrogen is kept very low or completely disappears.
All these reactions occur thanks to the action of the aerobic bacterial fraction and the enzymatic compounds, the anaerobic bacterial fraction acts with denitrification reactions in case nitrogen is released (causing death of algae) to the anoxic sediment.

This is a cost effective technology for the reduction of pollution and the respect of natural fauna and flora.
