Innovative system for underwater video surveillance

Bulgarian prived SME company specialised in the design and development of access control systems developed an innovative system for underwater video surveillance both in visible and infrared spectrum. The company is looking for commercial agreement with technical and financial assistance with foreign companies for further development and marketing of the product.

The system for underwater surveillance can find applications in emergency and rescue operations, in environmental research and protection, in criminal science. It can be used to observe the conditions of underwater sites, in search and monitoring operations; in emergency and rescue operations in deep wells, reservoirs, static water basins, natural and artificial water basins.

The system can perform real time monitoring of sites under water /water taking facilities/, in cases of deliberate or accidental pollution of water basins with industrial waste, as well as observation of the internal condition of smoke passages of fuel or technological sources of harmful emissions and monitoring of the internal condition of large containers of heavy or gaseous fuels, and finally observation of the fauna in speleological activities.

In criminal science, the system is applicable in the process of seeking for the tools and objects of the crime, which have been deliberately hidden in all kinds of water basins. The aim is to obtain real time information about objects under water, without additional sources of light in different water basins, regardless of their dimensions, volume and depth, for unlimited time until the achievement of the planned result. The system allows for on-course observation of the dynamics of the occurring emergency situations under water, in order to analyze, control, prevent and neutralize them.

The specially built video camera is capable of observing both the visible and the infrared spectrum and according to the transparency of the environment, the range of observation can reach from 10 to 30m, where, after emission of infrared light from the camera itself, observations can be performed at 0 Lux. The underwater surveillance system comes in two varieties:
- for observations at depths from 1 to 7 meters under water;
- for observations at depths up to 30 meters under water.

Innovative Aspects:
The system enhances the process of obtaining real time information about underwater objects and processes as it provides the following innovations and advantages:
- ability to explore in greater depths (up to 30 meters.);
- ability to observe in dark environment (0 Lux) in the infrared spectrum;
- minimising of the risk during rescue operations, underwater searches, repairs, pollution removal etc.;
- prevention of damage, wreck, pollution etc.
- ability to monitor and control critical processes underwater ( e.g. cooling channels of powerstations).

The advantages of this system are its universal applications for observation of objects both in static water basins, regardless of their volume and depth down to 30 m., and also in artificial and natural water basins with active water currents.
