Kurzfassung
A Finnish company in the area of aquaculture is offering its recirculation technology for the international fish farming markets. The most significant difference with comparison to the current systems available is the use of the recirculation process for water in each fish tank separately. Therefore the solution enables controlling each tank’s conditions individually and prevents e.g. the spreading of fish diseases. Partners are sought for commercial agreements.
Details
A Finnish company is one of the leading manufacturers of fish feeding systems, and has also developed an efficient recirculation technology for indoor fish farming. In order to obtain successful results in such a farming method, maintaining a sufficient oxygen level is highly important. The recirculation technology developed by the Finnish company is based on using recirculation systems in each tank separately. This enables full control concerning the demanding parameters for the breeding.
In the recirculation system the water is filtrated mechanically, and the sludge removal is done during the filtration (as well as continuously). The water from the tank is aerated, biologically processed and disinfected by using ozonisation. After oxidation, the water is returned to the tank. As the fish breeding tanks are located indoors, the output is not affected by any environmental circumstances, and all the conditions can be monitored easily.
Innovative Aspects:
The main innovation in this recirculation technology is the usage of circulation in each of the fish farming tanks separately. The method is efficient and can increase the production volumes while decreasing environmental loading. It has been calculated that by controlling the breeding conditions (oxygen, the quality of water, temperature, etc), the time for new fish entry is 2-3 times faster than in traditional flow-through systems. Furthermore the need for water is typically the hundredth part of the quantity needed in flow-through farms. In addition the biological filtration technique has very good ratio between the efficiency and small size (the need for buildings is also smaller).
