Kurzfassung

A small Greek company has developed an advanced protection system with mushroom /deflectors in order to intercept and restrict the effects of a tsunami on high-risk but important coastal areas, in addition to the measures already instituted. The innovator is looking for a research institute for technical cooperation or a construction company to implement and promote the product under license agreement; joint venture agreement is also possible.

Details

1. Five series of cables must be placed between the swimmers’ security zone and the fishing zone limit, along the whole length of a five-kilometer high-risk coastline plus an additional safety length, as an anchoring base which must be in contact with the sea bed on piles or with concrete counterweights drawing no. (3), spaced equally & according to the area required when the mushroom/deflector is released & in full operational mode drawing no. (1).
2. On each of the five anchoring cables we will anchor the mushrooms/deflectors -in a technically feasible manner in terms of unlatching and replacement- which will be technically able to contract when in stand-by mode drawing no. (2), again spaced equally & according to the area required when the mushroom/diversion is released & in full operational mode towards any direction and if necessary drawing no. (1).
3. The mushroom/deflectors will all have the same shape, diameter, length, while the anchoring straps will all have the same length drawing no. (1), regardless the sea bed morphology, drawing no. (3). An additional distance spacer will be used to adjust with respect to the sea bed depth and the distance to the surface and also between the five series, according to site requirements.
4. The mushroom/deflectors must have a depth difference in relation to the sea bed and the surface between the five series for the greatest possible water deflection range & so as to create an interception wall for the oncoming water by the water being deflected, drawing no. (4).
5. Along the length of the coastline & in order to adjust the stand-by position of the mushroom/deflector in relation to the sea bed depth and the surface, the spacers for anchoring at the base cable & connection with the mushroom/deflector must all have the same length drawing no. (5), for each series of five, regardless of the sea bed morphology.

Innovative Aspects:
It would be useful to employ the tsunami suppression method which consists of a cluster of "Mushroom" water deflectors in order to intercept and restrict the effects of a tsunami on high-risk but important coastal areas, in addition to the measures already instituted. The "Mushroom" water deflectors would absorb part of the oncoming water under high pressure and transform it into an interception wall that significantly reduces the speed of the water passing laterally thus causing gradual deceleration to an increasing volume of water and resulting to reduced speed of impact on beaches & human facilities. Additionally to the reduction of water inflow on land, the result would be the minimization of consequences on human lives, material damage & utilities infrastructure with all that this entails. Simultaneously an area of protection in the marine region for all creatures of sea will be created.
