Agropellets and Biochar Carbon Sequestration turning residual Biomass into Bioenergy
Kurzfassung
A Swedish bioenergy company working with energy and carbon sequestration technologies for residual agro-biomass, has developed an innovative biomass pellet that minimize ash-related problems. The environmental-friendly special pellet formulations enhances the binding of trouble-causing fuel components and the residues turned into biochar is capturing carbon. Partners are sought for production of biochar for carbon sequestration and joint technical cooperation.
Details
Biochar is charcoal created by pyrolysis of biomass. The resulting charcoal-like material is a form of carbon capture and storage. Charcoal is a stable solid and rich in carbon content, and thus, can be used to lock carbon in the soil. Biochar is of increasing interest because of concerns about climate change caused by emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2) and other greenhouse gases.
The Swedish SME offers consulting in using agro-biomass and residues for producing biomass pellets - through the BIOAGRO method developed with the EU LIFE project BIOAGRO.
Furthermore, Biochar is a technology field that convert biomass into stabilized carbon and by applying it to soil makes agriculture more productive. The biochar generates a quantifiable carbon sink, customers can thereby turn by-product biomass into bioenergy. Companies already using agro-biomass for bioenergy use can benefit further of fuel optimisation by using the innovative BIOAGRO method.
Innovative Aspects:
The advantage of using biochar for carbon capture compared to emission reduction is the carbon storage potential. Biochar effectively capture carbon dioxide and locks it down for approximately 2000 years.
Compared to current methods, this special pellet formulations offer optimal combustion performance when using by-product biomass for bioenergy.
