Kurzfassung
A large US consumer products company operating on a global scale is looking for chemical formulations for reducing urogenital itching and irritation and for mechanisms for delivering relief via a feminine care consumer product. They are looking for technical cooperation. Although a development project is anticipated for promising early-stage technologies, respondents with data showing efficacy for this application may be considered for more aggressive commercialisation.
Details
The urogenital area of the female body is subject to various conditions that can cause irritation, itching and poor skin health. However, few feminine hygiene products adequately address the irritation without re-application or inconvenient use. Additionally, creams are not effective when applied to a pad or liner, since the absorbent pads absorb the active substance and do not allow transfer to the affected area.
For reference, skin irritation may result from bacterial colonisation, chemical irritation, or sustained moisture. Additionally, these may occur in combination with rubbing contact from undergarments and hygiene products.
The objective of this request, therefore, is to identify both chemical/biological treatments and a corresponding delivery mechanism to provide effective and sustained treatment and maintenance of skin and body health. The primary delivery mechanism of interest is a dry matrix (such as feminine hygiene pads). The substance would then be able to be activated by moisture and by body temperature, and have sustained release.
Chemistries and solutions that can be formulated into the end feminine care product are of primary interest, but other unique applications will be considered.
As the intended applications would be purchased off the store shelf, formulations that would be prescription-based are not of interest.
Technical Specifications / Specific technical requirements:
The successful technology must:
• Address feminine urogenital itching.
• Enable release of a chemical or biological substance to the area for treatment via a dry matrix (such as feminine hygiene products, or fibre substrate).
• Be “activated” in a 4,5 to 6,2 pH environment by moisture and body temperature.
• Can be realised into a proof of concept within 6 to 12 months.
• Have a 12-month shelf life.
• Dry stability for 7 days at 140 °F (60 °C).
The company prefers exclusivity for target applications.
