Kurzfassung

An Austrian industrial company, specialised in polyurethane (soft) foams, developed a novel mattress element to regulate the body temperature of the user by using an integrated temperature control. This special mattress guarantees constant heat emission and functions without energy input or external heating elements while it is in use. The company is looking for partners (in the furniture business) for further development and technical sales co-operation.

In a fast moving world, relaxation and regeneration after busy periods is getting more and more important. A big part of relaxation is the daily sleep. A widespread and well-known sleep problem is the bedtime ritual. Especially in winter time we first have to acclimate to the (generally) lower room temperatures before we can fall asleep.

An Austrian specialist in foam materials has now developed a new technology to tackle this problem.
This new solution is based on the principle that temperature control of the human body is basically regulated by the feet. To date solutions have either used external heat sources (e.g.: heat packs or hot water bottles) or electric heating mats with the disadvantage of time- limited heat emission on the one hand and electromagnetic waves on the other hand.

This new product is a mattress-shaped pad with an integrated temperature control system in the foot zone. This control system, made of layers of special foam materials, which are both soft and diathermic, contains a state-of-the-art phase changing material (PCM) and in this way guarantees constant heat emission without external power supply while the system is in use.
Before use, the heat store is loaded by 24 V low voltage conduction for about three hours. When in use, it needs no further energy.

At the current stage of development, it can be produced as a whole mattress or just as a foot module generally suitable for all kinds of mattresses. In the near future, the company will concentrate on cooling solutions in addition to considering other applications such as upholstered furniture, similar furniture or other areas of applications.
