A United Kingdom North West region SME had developed a process to supply enhanced wood fuel pellets using the torrefaction technique and is ready to commercialise. The SME is looking for a partner or partners to supply, using this process under license, established markets in their countries and regions.

A United Kingdom North West Region SME has developed a process to valorize biomass and convert it into stable, non-biodegradable solid fuel. Essentially - Bio-Coal or wood like pellets. The process converts raw biomass into a product that is hydrophobic and has a much higher energy densisty (comparable to coal) and much higher Mass Density than the original feedstock. It improves the grindability of the biomass and allows for direct Co-Firing in virtually any quantity. This developement allows Power Stations to burn CO2 neutral fuel, thereby significantly reducing the impact of fossil coal. It removes the requirement for seperate processing streams and storage requirements saving millions of Euros in Capital Expenditure.
Innovative Aspects:
Innovation is that the process converts heterogeneous feedstock into a stable, predictable homogeneous fuel with a very high energy density that can be mixed with other solid fuel types or burnt seperately.
Advantages are:
Saves potential capital expenditure by not needing seperate storage or feed facilities than other solid fuels.
Undesirable volatiles are driven off in the process, eliminating issues of alkaloid deposition and Sulphur Dioxide/Nitrogen Dioxide emmission.
The fuel is completely sustainable.
Has an embedded energy of less than 10% of its derived energy.
