Kurzfassung

A Swedish SME has developed a portfolio of care solutions including a TV based video-phone product and service which allows video calls to take place over the internet, a monitoring solution for in home monitoring and finally a mobility solution for field staff handling. This is an IT innovation with the elderly as its principle target group. . The company is looking for contacts within the care sector for licence agreement or commercial agreement with technical assistance.



Details

Hundreds of thousands of elderly people long for more frequent contact with their children, grandchildren or care providers. This was the benchmark of the Swedish world innovation that was created to increase quality of life for the elderly, all this at a very low cost.

The Swedish company has developed a unique portfolio of solutions for managing home care. The portfolio includes:

1. A TV phone, a video phone connected to the TV with a uniquely simple user interface. This allows computer illiterate people to for the first time communicate in real time with care providers and loved ones on their own TV.

2. A monitoring solution for remote video and audio monitoring. This allows for minimization of unnecessary house calls.

3. A fleet management solution for managing of staff on the field based on mobile software.

Four different user areas have been identified for the innovation:
1. Is a service that makes it easier for family and care providers to stay in daily contact with the elderly via both picture and sound. The service is easy to use, and is adapted for the elderly. It consist of a picture phone that is connected to the television, and is designed for people without technical skills. This service also offers: a video telephone and installation support.
2. Is a service that creates closeness, safety and security for the care recipient 24 hours a day. For a care provider, the service offers more time and resources for quality care. The service provides, upon agreement, the opportunity for the care provider to receive alarms, and via a motion sensitive video camera, see what happens with the care taker. The service includes: remote video and motion guard, administrative tools for the care provider, as well as installation support.
3. Is a service includes everything mentioned in offer no. 2, as well as the opportunity to administrate a number of care takers at the same time via a web-based tool. This service also include: complete offer no. 2 above, remote administration, group function, reporting tool and a monitoring system.
4. Is a service that offers simplified communication and planning for care providers working in the field. The service creates a safer working environment for the staff. In addition, the care service is quality checked through clear instructions, check lists and reporting. Also included is: time and activity planning, positioning of mobile staff, conference calls, messaging service for groups and individuals, reporting to family, internal reporting, alarm system with sound and video, installation support.

Innovative Aspects:
The service is proven to reduce sleep disturbance and minimizes the number of false alarms and other unnecessary home visits.
Using this innovation cost and time efficient in terms of fewer unnecessary visits and recourses that can be redirected to those in real need of physical presence. At the same time, the elderly will have a better opportunity to interact with family and friends. The number of check-ins will increase, since the user is always only a click away. Therefore, the communication tool creates efficiencies for the care provider while simultaneously improving quality of life for the elderly. Several pilot tests and studies in Sweden and the UK have shown these advantages of using the device.
