Kurzfassung

A Bulgarian SME specialised in fire-retardant technologies and products has invented a method for plasma chemical surface modifying of materials and items, and specifically for plasma-aided impregnation with solutions containing fire retardants to make porous materials like textile, leather, wood-foamed polymers and items made of them, resistant to fire and ignition. The company looks for licensing the product, manufacturing, commercial agreement with technical assistance, and joint venture.



Details

The Bulgarian company behind this technology offers an innovative fire-retardant product registered as a trademark, which has been created in the form of a solution containing phosphorous and nitrogen compounds as fire retardants. The product has been developed and tested for nine years in the company.
A range of correcting solutions have been developed especially for the plasma-aided impregnation. These solutions are added up to the basic solution of the innovative product, and change its ion and capillary activity.
The company, jointly with a Bulgarian university, offers a new solution for fire-protection achieved through fire retardants, which covers all porous materials based on polymers and wood used in the interior of large public and business buildings, concert halls, discotheques, restaurants and night clubs, theatres, TV and audio recording studios, pavilions and stage equipment; the interior of transport means such as planes, ships, motor vehicles, trains.
It is intended for woven and non -woven fabrics, curtains, carpets made of synthetic or natural materials (cotton, linen, silk, wool), natural leather, foamed polymers and their products (Styrofoam, polyurethane), wood and wooden products, as paper, cardboard, boards of wood particles, MDF (Medium Density Fibreboard) and products thereof.
The process of flame combustion is suppressed in the ignition phase, restricting fire spreading by changing the reaction to fire (ignition capacity) of the combustion porous materials. Thus combustion materials are transformed into difficult-to-ignite materials that do not burn independently, do not spread and do not maintain the burning process.

Innovative Aspects:
The plasma chemical surface modification method is held by autoclave high-pressure impregnation; impregnation by dipping; casting; spreading with roll or spraying at atmospheric pressure and room temperature with fire-retardant nitrogen and phosphorus containing water solution and further drying at room temperature.
The specific characteristic of the method is the on-site treatment of the porous materials and workpieces - before impregnation the materials are treated on site for a period of 3 to 300 seconds with cold non-equilibrium plasma of glow electrical discharge at atmospheric pressure that burns under voltage of 1 to 3 kV and at a frequency of 50 Hz to 100kHz. This treatment is specifically applied to provide fire spread and ignition resistance of the treated materials.
The plasma chemical surface modification of materials is distinguished for:
- Its improved penetration and effect due to the usage of the specially developed fire-retardant product;
- Its improved technology, applicability, universality, reliability and quick action;
- Patented cold plasma at normal pressure works at the spot or it may be applied in the industry no matter the size of the workpiece and the accessibility of the surfaces;
- For a short time it activates material capillary and ionic structures, increases chemical activity and adsorption, facilitates crystallisation;
- Cold plasma-aided technology and fire-retardant products are economical to apply;
- It is safe and covers all standards.
