Kurzfassung
A large German Research Institute has developed a temperature-resistant solenoid valve which is very useful in combustion research. Due to its features the valve allows investigations under conditions not previously attainable. The new technology is especially applicable in car industry, production technology and energy technology. The institute seeks either a license agreement or a technical cooperation.
Details
Fuel-efficient combustion management accompanied by emission reduction are important aspects in present engine development. Important contributions to this subject are made by combustion research, for instance, investigations into self-ignition of free jets of fuel gas. To study self-ignition, the fuel used is injected into the ignition chamber at a pressure of roughly 70 bar and a temperature of approx.400°C, which leaves it gaseous. The time of injection must be controlled exactly to ensure reproducibility and synchronization with the measuring setup. These requirements are met best by solenoid valves.
As no commercial solenoid valves are available for temperatures that high, the German Research Istitute has modified a solenoid injector. Temperature-resistant materials were used for springs, gaskets, and parts of the guiding system. The solenoid coil proper consists of a ceramic carrier on which metallic magnet wire is wound. The oxide layer on the surface of the electric conductor has an electrically insulating effect relative to the neighboring wires. This design ensures reliable operation of the solenoid valve.
At temperatures up to 600°C, the modified solenoid valve can be set optionally in two modes, the mode generating a magnetic field and the mode without a magnetic field. In this way, studies can be performed under operating conditions not attainable before.
Innovative Aspects:
Due to its temperature resistance, the new solenoid valve enables studies to be performed under operating conditions not attainable before.
