A German research institute has developed an extremely small measuring sensor for measurements of temperature- and thermal conductivity on small defined spots. The device is suitable for several applications in the analysis of materials. Due to the small required space the system is suitable for material analysis in complex environments like the analysis of brake discs. The research institute is searching for licensees.

The determination of temperature and thermal conductivity is an important task in the analysis of material. The analysis of these parameters on one small defined spot is an extremely difficult task. The German research has developed a measuring sensor which enables those measurements due to the small required space. Furthermore the device makes those measurements at very small objects with small dimensions possible.
The measuring sensor is made of a resistance element, which delivers resulting heat after the feeding with power. If the measuring sensor gets in contact with material, additional heat results, which is detected by a change of resistance ant the sensor.
The offered sensor has a very small diameter of only 4,5 mm, therefore thermal boundary effects can be kept unattended. The processing of the measurement data is much easier compared with classic transient processes as the sensor runs in a quasi stationary modus due to it's low spatial extent. The design principle of the device enables the measurement of very small material patterns and the acquired heating current is decreased.
Due to the system of the processing of the measuring data, measurement and data processing are suitable for industrial applications and the processes can be performed within minutes.
The measuring system, with its simple construction, can be integrated into complete measuring matrixes.
The offered system is suitable for the analysis of materials in automotive, energy and processing technology, in the construction sector and in the analysis of thermal insulation materials. By the integration of the sensor in the area of product development or construction physics new materials can be developed faster and more cost effective. In other cases measurements of thermal- and temperature where not able before, as not enough space was available.
