Kurzfassung

To oppose maritime infiltration on day or night in areas prone to clandestine penetration and smuggling, a French R&D company has fully developed coastal surveillance portable and autonomous radar. It is powered with solar PV energy eliminating the need of bulky generator. It is user-friendly and does not require training such as the radar operators. The reliable solution is already on the market indeed the SME seeks new Commercial Agreement with Technical Assistance.

Details

A French SME has developed a complete autonomous and portable solution of coastal infiltration detection radar. Rapidly set up in front of sea it allows a day/night surveillance of coastal area. Upon receiving alarm information concerning clandestine penetration into the bay, the Military, Police or Customs services can head directly to the detected scene of infiltration in terrestrial or maritime vehicles to catch wrong doers.

The radar is "portable" and easy to use. It can be fixed on a portable 2-meter high tripod. It is connected to the portable suitcase “pelicase” type in which a colour screen allows to visualize and follow the target even in bright daylight.

The radar is "autonomous" and can run 10 hours on rechargeable batteries. The battreries located in the portable suitcase can be charged by an associated foldable solar photovoltaic protected panel (IP 67). However the batteries also can be charged by direct plug to AC-DC current.

The portable suitcase contains an on/off system and vision and surveillance screen on which it is possible to watch all coastal infiltration in real time. Indeed this radar detects at a distance from 40km up to 25km (depending on the weather conditions) an 8-metre boat arriving in a bay and heading towards the beach. For a permanent surveillance, the radar can also be positioned in a higher altitude for example on top of a hill facing the sea (alarm by GSM or private radio in case of detection).

The radar is equipped with a gyrocompass to follow a target on the site and also with a GPS allowing to measure the distance of approach to the coast. The radar gives the direction of the boat in real time, its speed as well as its geographical position (latitude, longitude). It has an “ARPA” function that automatically localizes 10 targets with an automatic follow-up either of a moving object (boat) or a floating one (buoy).

The radar features several adjustment options. To get the best signal processing as an echo, it is possible to choose the options depending on the weather conditions (when it rains), the sea condition (calm, moderate or rough) and also to adjust the sensitivity of the radar.

The system is delivered with a cartography of the considered region. On the screen (VGA luminous 256 colours), the 3D image represents the coast under surveillance. It allows auto guidance with the mouse. It features the aerial photography and the coasts references. It gives the structure of the harbors in the area, beacons, lights and the references of coast outlines. Evidently the juxtaposition of the radar images is possible on the cartography. It gives the opportunity of placing several check points to protect an area with the radar at several kilometres from its location.

Innovative Aspects:
The radar is easy to setup and use. It is portable, autonomous (solar energy powered). It is digital, waterproof, equipped with an independent signal treatment.

The system is operational in only 6 minutes. As soon as the radar has been installed and connected to the suitcase, it automatically searches for the 4 necessary satellites for its functioning. The position (latitude and longitude) is recognized and thus the radar is almost operational: the distance of surveillance needs to be parametered gradually from 1 up to 36 kilometers.
