Kurzfassung
A large US company is looking for proposals for new materials that can adsorb, capture, and / or neutralize volatile molecules in dry and wet conditions. They are interested in licensing, product acquisition, contract research, proof of concept leading to scale up to manufacturing, joint development, supplier agreement, consultancy.
Details
Bacteria can be responsible for the production of malodorous volatile organic compounds (VOCs). This is a problem in a number of situations such as food processing and storage, personal hygiene, water management, etc. These VOCs can be extremely heterogeneous and vary considerably in concentration. In addition, the odorous potency of the VOC species can vary significantly, with below detection VOCs contributing a high degree of malodor. Currently available materials have limited absorption / neutralization capacities and can often lose their properties when incorporated in complex mixtures.
Possible approaches might include, but are not limited to:
- Micro-materials
- Particles (0.5-100 µm)
- Fibers
- Porous and / or “breathable” materials
- Polymers, activated polymers and smart polymers
- Technologies from the textile or food industries
- Biomimetic materials
- Chromatography
- Natural materials
- New combinations of materials.
The following approaches are not of interest:
- Zeolites, sodium bicarbonate, active charcoal
- Approaches that are unsafe for human contact
- Materials classified as a carcinogen, mutagen, repro-toxic, or sensitizer
- Materials classified as dangerous according to the Dangerous Substances Directive (67/548/EEC) and Dangerous Preparations Directive (1999/45/EC): R50/53, R51/53, R50, R53, R42, R43.
Technical Specifications / Specific technical requirements:
The successful technology:
- Will irreversibly adsorb, trap, capture or neutralize a range of volatile molecules, e.g. short chain (C2-C12) fatty acids, ketones, aldehydes, steroids, indole and/or thiols of bacterial origin
- Will function in dry or wet conditions
- Can be fixed or immobilized on a surface without losing its properties
- Will have a “capture” capacity that is at least 1g volatile molecules/10g new material(s)
- Can be delivered in oily, aqueous or alcoholic vehicles
- Will perform well in complex mixtures containing esters, ethers, silicone oils, and surfactants.
The request is especially interested in materials that are eco-friendly (biodegradable, “green” processing, sustainable).
Technologiesektor | - Kunststoffe, Polymere - Materialeigenschaften (Korrosion/Abbau) - Gesundheits- und Pflegedienste - Lebensmittelverarbeitung |
Kooperationstyp | - License Agreement - Joint further development - Testing of new applications - Adaptation to specific needs - Absolutely novel process Responses from companies (large or small, startups, etc.), hospital or academic researchers, contract research institutes, pharmacologists, nutritionists, medicinal chemists, drug formulators, biochemists, physiologists, alternative or traditional medicine providers, etc., from around the world are all welcome. ANTICIPATED PROJECT PLAN The request will select compelling proposals for preliminary direct discussions to further assess the technology and determine possible next steps that may include demonstration in current system, feasibility testing, development, and / or proof of concept testing in client’s model (Phase 1). Promising approaches will be supported for adaptation and development as warranted (Phases 2 and 3). Note that this profile requires a convincing solution proposal.
