Kurzfassung

An Andalusian University and other Andalusian Public Institutions have developed an invention consisting of a versatile assay to evaluate allergy to cephalosporin’s based upon in vitro detection of IgE antibodies to different varieties of allergen. In particular, the technology refers to the procedure for obtaining, processing and use of the chemical composition for specific detection of IgE antibodies to cephalosporin’s. Manufacturers of clinical diagnostic kits are sought under patent licence.

Details

Cephalosporin’s, after penicillin, are the most widely used antibacterial agents in infectious diseases and the cause of adverse immune reactions in the world. Whether a patient with a suspected allergy to a ß-lactam can safely take a cephalosporin is often a matter of debate. However, there are no tests with enough sensitivity to detect allergy to cephalosporins. That is why, in the event that a patient needs this type of drug, it is necessary to improve the aim when prescribing a type of penicillin or another, or even opt for antibiotics based on cephalosporin, also the group of ß-lactam antibiotics.
In this sense, the University of Malaga in collaboration with the Carlos Haya Hospital has published a paper in the journal Chemical Research in Toxicology whose aim has been precisely the in vitro detection of adverse reactions to different varieties of cephalosporins. The group of Dendrimers Biomimetic and Photonics, University of Malaga, led by Ezequiel Perez-Inestrosa, has been working more than 20 years with the Allergy Service at Carlos Haya Hospital in Malaga. Almost eight years have been devoted to this line of research. A work that sheds according to its authors a wide range of possibilities in the clinical diagnosis and opens the door to the application of the cephalosporin in cases, a priori, was out for a possible rejection of the patient.
Thus, the present invention constitutes a versatile assay to evaluate allergy to cephalosporin’s based upon in vitro detection of IgE antibodies to different varieties of allergen. In particular, the technology refers to the procedure for obtaining, processing and use of the chemical composition for specific detection of IgE antibodies to cephalosporins. The technology includes the kit for detection of specific IgE antibodies against a variety of cephalosporin’s and its use. The institution is interested in licence agreement.

Innovative Aspects:
The invention constitutes the first reliable method for the evaluation of allergies to cephalosporin’s deriving from subjects suspicious to be allergic to the specific drug.
- Easy to use and versatile in vitro assay including formula composition for the specific evaluation and quantification of allergies to cephalosporins.
- Formula compound stable in aqueous solution at physiological pH.
- High sensitivity assay.
- Includes a pharmaceutical composition for the development of medical drug which can be applied subcutaneously or in any other different way of drug administration .
