A Turkish SME dealing with mobile technologies is looking for a partner experienced in creating client software for mobile devices for their project "Mobile Graffiti" to be submitted to EUREKA Program. The project aims to develop a system for messaging mobile phone users by location. The partner will develop the client software for mobile devices in different platforms (Java, Symbian, Windows Mobile, Android, iPhone).Details
The Turkish SME is a provider of mobile-enabling technologies.Rapid developing of technology leads mobile service developers to create new services and new ways of communication. To this date all of the messaging systems are one-to-one and is instant. There was no way to associate a geographical location to a message unless you use a GPS device or you go out and message people you see on the spot.
The purpose of the project is to let users message by location, not specific to people, and this messaging must be as easy as possible, just like normal messaging.
This project will create a framework to send location info with the text or multimedia message (image, video, audio) to the server via SMS/MMS and store it until another user comes to the same location and receive the message via SMS/MMS.
The user will also be able to see the text and multimedia messages on the map. This map feature will be mandatory for the iPhone and Android phones, but will be optional for Java, Symbian, Windows Mobile phones.
With the new system, users will be able to leave messages at any geographical point by means of SMS/MMS, allowing one or more recipients who approach the point to view the message when in close enough proximity. For example one will leave a message in front of a movie to let his friends that he went to see a movie and liked it, so his friends will see the same movie.
It will also be possible to send advertisements with this system. Stores will be able to send digital leaflets to people passing by or even offer discounts on the spot for just passing by.
City wide information would be shared as well. A tourist could subscribe to a certain channel of this service and receive information about the places that he/she has been on the spot.
There are many ways to locate a cell phone. Cell operator can scan its network to see which base stations are sending signal to user; but this operation requires huge calculating power and also blocks the system. If there are more than 1M users to watch, this operation becomes impossible. This is why the solution is at the user side. Installation of an application to the phone itself to monitor the phone's signal levels is needed to realize the project
Technical Specifications / Specific technical requirements:
The Turkish SME will be developing the delivery system, unit location tracker, GIS location tagging, subscription system, publishing system, profile system and the WEB Portal.
The partner will have a role in developing the client software for mobile devices in different platforms (Java, Symbian, Windows Mobile, Android, iPhone).
The partner may also have a role for developing map feature which will show the text and multimedia messages on the map on the client software in different platforms (Java, Symbian, Windows Mobile, Android, iPhone). Map feature will be mandatory for Android, iPhone phones but will be optional for Java, Symbian, Windows Mobile phones.
