Kurzfassung
A Polish SME from Lower Silesia specialized in autofocus systems has developed an autofocus sensor for live animal research that solves a problem of animal’s motions (even related to breathing or pulse). The system maintains the microscope in focus at all times. The company seeks cooperation with live animal study device manufacturers and laboratories interested in adapting the technology to specific market needs.
Details
When performing live animal imaging it is possible to physically restrain the animal but small residual movements always remain. The movements cause the image to come in and out of focus when the animal breathes. The technology can monitor the animal position and dynamically refocus the object into the plane of interest. The system allows to examine single cells in a living animal without losing any temporal resolution, frames or spatial resolution.
A polish SME from Lower Silesia specialized in autofocus systems has developed an autofocus sensor that compensates for live animal’s motions for example breathing or pulse. The system maintains the microscope in focus at all times.
Main technological features:
- The system has built in RISC processor with FPGA to allow real time data processing
- Integrated closed loop control with z-axis actuation
- Compensates for z-axis motions up to 100 µm/s
- Video rate imaging
- Signal conditioning
- Surface recognition
- Focal plane offset
- Camera sync feature
- 785nm wavelength measuring laser
- Compact sensor size (50x52x132mm)
Innovative Aspects:
- Compensates for live animal's motions including breathing and maintains the microscope in focus at all times
- Fast operation allowing live video imaging
- Automatically corrects for both slow and fast focus drift
- Enables examination of very fast dynamics within live animals – no lost frames
- No interference with fluorescent imaging – fully compatible with two-photon excitation above 785 nm
- Very compact sensor facilitates easy integration
